How to Rent a Tile Cleaner Machine? Read This First!

Alright, so yesterday I tackled a job I'd been putting off for way too long: cleaning the freaking tile floors. We're talking layers of grime, mystery stains, the whole shebang. I finally decided enough was enough and looked into renting a tile cleaner machine.

First off, I hit up a couple of local hardware stores. You know, the usual suspects – Home Depot and Lowe's. Lowe's was closer, so I swung by there first. I asked the guy in the tool rental section about tile cleaner machine rental. He pointed me to this big, clunky-looking thing, a Rug Doctor Tile Doctor. Seemed legit.

The rental process was pretty straightforward. Showed my ID, filled out some paperwork (name, address, the usual stuff), and paid the rental fee. It was about $40 for a 24-hour rental, which seemed reasonable enough. They also tried to upsell me on their special cleaning solution, but I had some heavy-duty stuff at home already, so I passed.

Getting the machine home was a bit of a pain. It was heavier than I expected, and barely fit in the trunk of my car. Pro-tip: have a truck or SUV ready if you're renting one of these bad boys. I managed to wrestle it out and into the house, though.

Before firing it up, I did a quick sweep and vacuum of the floors. Gotta get rid of the loose dirt and debris first. Then, I mixed up my cleaning solution according to the instructions on the bottle. I went with a strong dilution since my floors were in pretty bad shape.

Operating the machine was actually pretty simple. You fill the solution tank, plug it in, and then pull the trigger to spray the solution while you move the machine back and forth. It's like vacuuming, but with soapy water. The dirty water gets sucked back up into a separate tank.

I started in the kitchen, which was by far the dirtiest area. The machine definitely made a difference right away. I could see the grime being lifted as I went. I had to go over some spots multiple times, especially around the grout lines. Those were a real pain.

The dirty water tank filled up pretty quickly, so I had to empty it several times during the process. It was disgusting – dark brown and full of gunk. Makes you wonder what you're actually walking on every day!

I worked my way through the kitchen, bathroom, and hallway. It took a few hours, but it was worth it. The floors looked noticeably cleaner. Not perfect, mind you, but a HUGE improvement. I probably should have gotten a grout brush to scrub those stubborn areas more aggressively, but I was already exhausted.

After I was done, I rinsed the floors with clean water to remove any leftover cleaning solution. Then, I let them air dry. They were still a bit damp, but by the next morning, they were completely dry and sparkling (well, almost!).

Cleaning the machine was also a breeze. I just emptied the dirty water tank, rinsed it out, and wiped down the outside of the machine. Super simple.

Overall, renting the tile cleaner machine was a good experience. It was definitely easier and more effective than trying to scrub the floors by hand. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Especially for a deep clean like this.

Here are my takeaways:

  • Rent from a place that's convenient for you.
  • Have a vehicle that can easily transport the machine.
  • Don't skimp on the cleaning solution.
  • Take your time and go over each area multiple times.
  • Consider getting a grout brush for stubborn areas.

And that's the story of my tile cleaning adventure. Hope this helps if you're thinking about renting a tile cleaner machine yourself!
