Why should you use a bowling ball machine cleaner? Get a much better score with a cleaner ball.

Alright, so yesterday I decided to tackle something I'd been putting off for way too long: cleaning my bowling ball. I mean, seriously, it was looking rough.

First things first, I gathered my supplies. I'd read a bunch of stuff online, so I figured I had a decent handle on what I needed. Here's the rundown:

  • A good bowling ball cleaner – I went with the stuff the pro shop recommended.
  • Some microfiber towels – gotta be gentle, you know?
  • A bucket of warm (not hot!) water.

Okay, so the ball was looking pretty grimy. I could see the oil rings plain as day. So, I started by spraying the cleaner all over the ball. I made sure to get a nice, even coat. Then, I let it sit for a couple of minutes – the instructions said to, so I followed them!

Next up, I grabbed a microfiber towel and started wiping. I went in circular motions, trying to lift all that gunk off the surface. Honestly, it was kinda gross seeing how much dirt was coming off. I kept wiping and wiping, switching to a clean section of the towel when needed.

After what felt like forever, the ball was looking better, but it still felt a little slick. That's where the warm water came in. I dipped a fresh microfiber towel in the water, wrung it out really well (didn't want to soak the ball), and gave it another good wipe down. This seemed to do the trick – it removed any lingering cleaner residue and left the ball feeling nice and grippy.

Finally, I dried the ball completely with another clean microfiber towel. I wanted to make sure there was no moisture left that could potentially damage the surface.

And that was it! My bowling ball was clean! It actually looked almost new. I'm hoping it'll help my game, too. Time will tell. But even if it doesn't, at least I'm not throwing a dirty, oily ball anymore. Definitely worth the effort. Gonna make this a regular thing from now on. Maybe every other week? We'll see how lazy I get.
