Alright, so here's the deal. I got this crazy idea in my head – a golf ball cleaner machine. Why? Because I'm tired of scrubbing golf balls by hand like some kind of caveman. Plus, those little cleaning contraptions they sell at the course are usually busted or just plain weak. So, I figured, why not build my own?

First things first, I needed a plan. I spent a couple of hours sketching out some designs. I wanted something simple, effective, and, honestly, kinda cool-looking. I settled on a cylindrical container with rotating brushes inside. The golf balls would tumble around in soapy water, get scrubbed clean, and then drain. Seemed easy enough, right?

Next, I hit up my local hardware store. I grabbed a PVC pipe for the main container, some smaller PVC pipes for the brush holders, a small electric motor, a belt, some pulleys, and a bunch of different brushes. I also picked up some plumbing fittings for drainage and some waterproof sealant – gotta keep that water where it belongs!

The construction was pretty straightforward. I cut the PVC pipe to the desired length for the container. Then, I drilled holes along the inside to mount the smaller PVC pipes that would hold the brushes. This part was a little tricky because I wanted the brushes to be evenly spaced and at the right angle to really scrub those golf balls.

After the brush holders were in place, I started working on the motor and pulley system. I mounted the motor to a small piece of plywood and then attached a pulley to the motor shaft. I used a larger pulley on the end of one of the brush holder pipes to create the desired rotation speed. It took some trial and error to get the right pulley ratio, but eventually, I got it spinning at a good clip.

With the mechanical parts sorted, I focused on the water system. I drilled a drain hole in the bottom of the PVC pipe and attached a plumbing fitting. I used plenty of waterproof sealant to make sure it wouldn't leak. I also added a simple on/off switch for the motor.

Now came the fun part: testing! I filled the container with soapy water, tossed in a few dirty golf balls, and flipped the switch. The brushes started spinning, and the golf balls began to tumble around. After a few minutes, I drained the water, and, lo and behold, the golf balls were noticeably cleaner! Not perfect, mind you, but a huge improvement over hand-scrubbing.

Of course, there were a few hiccups along the way. The first version leaked like a sieve, requiring a liberal application of sealant. The brushes I initially used were too soft and didn't really scrub the balls effectively. I had to swap them out for some stiffer brushes. And the motor I used was a bit underpowered, so I might upgrade that in the future.

But overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it works! And that's all that matters. Plus, I learned a ton about motors, pulleys, and PVC pipe.
