The Planning Phase: A Wild Idea Takes Shape

Essentially, I needed something that could blow a lot of air across the carpet to speed up evaporation. I also wanted something portable and not too bulky.

Alright, time to get my hands dirty! I started by modifying the shop vac. I disconnected the vacuum part (since I only needed the blower function) and wired up the fan directly to the extension cord. (Make sure you know what you are doing with electricity. Safety first, people!)

Then, I built a frame out of the PVC pipes. I wanted it to be adjustable so I could direct the airflow where I needed it most. I used PVC fittings to create joints that could be tightened and loosened.

The hardest part was figuring out how to attach the shop vac to the PVC frame and direct the airflow effectively. I ended up using a combination of duct tape (yes, duct tape fixes everything!) and some custom-cut pieces of PVC pipe. It wasn't pretty, but it worked!

Testing and Tweaking: The Moment of Truth

After the build, it was time for the moment of truth. I cleaned a small section of carpet and then fired up my DIY drying machine. To my surprise, it actually worked pretty well! The airflow was strong and directed right at the carpet.

But there were a few issues:
