My Go With That Steam Vacuum Thing
Alright, so I got my hands on one of those "vacuum de vapor" machines. Heard about them, you know? Sounded like a good idea – clean with steam, maybe suck up the mess too. Less scrubbing, less chemicals, that was the plan anyway.
Got the box delivered. Pulled it out. Wasn't too complicated, mostly clicking bits together. Handle here, nozzle there. Instructions were okay, pictures mostly. Filled up the little water tank, plugged it in. Had to wait a bit for the steam, like waiting for a kettle. Heard it gurgling away.
First try: The kitchen floor. It's got tiles, and the grout gets grubby. Pushed the thing forward. Steam came out, yeah. Made a hissing sound. It felt... weird. Not like vacuuming, not really like mopping either. It glided okay, left the floor wet, steamy wet.
Did it clean? Well, sort of. Some surface dirt lifted. I went over a sticky spot near the bin. Had to go back and forth a few times. Lots of steam, quite a bit of noise. But the really ground-in stuff in the grout? Ehh, not so much change there. Maybe needed more muscle, I don't know.
Then I thought, what about the "vacuum" part? Honestly, I didn't see much sucking action. It's not like my regular vacuum that pulls up crumbs easily. This seemed more about the steam loosening stuff, and then the pad on the bottom wiping it. If there were bigger bits, they just got pushed around by the steam and the pad. Had to sweep first, really, which felt like missing the point.
- Filled water tank again. It uses water pretty fast.
- Tried it on a small rug. Made it damp. Maybe refreshed it a bit? Hard to say. Didn't seem powerful enough for deep carpet stuff.
- Did the bathroom floor tiles. Same story as the kitchen. Okay for a surface wipe-down with steam, but not a miracle cleaner.
So, What's the Verdict?
Look, it does produce steam. And it does wipe the floor with a pad while doing it. So, technically, it's steaming and wiping. But calling it a "vacuum de vapor"? The "vacuum" part feels a bit generous. It's not grabbing dirt like my trusty old Hoover. It's more like a hot mop with extra steps.
I spent an afternoon messing with it. Got some floors damp, used a lot of steam. Did it change my life? Nah. Is it easier than a mop and bucket? Maybe slightly less messy, no wringing out. But I still needed to deal with loose bits beforehand. It's another gadget, you know? Does a job, but maybe not the super job I pictured. It’s okay, I guess. Just manage your expectations.
