Okay, so my patio was looking pretty nasty. Like, embarrassingly green and black in spots. Same with the fence. I figured it was time to actually get a power washer instead of just thinking about it every spring.
First thing I did was just wander down the aisle at the local big box store. Man, so many choices. Bright yellow ones, green ones, orange ones, black ones. Brands I'd heard of, others not so much. You got your Ryobi, your Simpson, maybe some Generac over there. Then there's the electric stuff like Sun Joe or Greenworks. It was a bit much, honestly.
I started thinking, do I need gas or electric? The gas ones seemed real powerful, like they could strip paint if you weren't careful. My neighbor has one, sounds like a small engine starting up every time. Loud. Plus, I remembered him fiddling with it last year, probably needed maintenance. I just wanted something simple for around the house stuff.
Deciding Factors
So, I leaned towards electric. Less noise, less messing around with gas and oil. Probably powerful enough for my deck and washing the car, right? Then I looked at the numbers – PSI, GPM. Honestly, it got confusing fast. I just wanted clean, not complicated.
I talked to a buddy who got a Karcher electric one a while back. He seemed happy enough with it for basic tasks. Said it wasn't gonna peel concrete but did the job on his siding and driveway grime.
- Looked at online reviews, but you know how that goes. Some people love a brand, some hate the exact same model.
- Checked prices. Didn't want the absolute cheapest, figured that might break fast. Didn't need the top-of-the-line pro model either.
- Considered what attachments came with it. A couple of different nozzles seemed important.
Making the Choice
In the end, I kinda landed on one of the popular electric brands, I think it was a Greenworks model. It wasn't the cheapest, wasn't the most expensive. Had decent reviews overall, seemed like a lot of folks used them for homeowner stuff. It felt like a safe bet, a good middle ground. It had the power numbers (PSI/GPM) that seemed about right for cleaning wood and cars without wrecking them.
Got it home, pulled it out of the box. Assembly was pretty straightforward, just clicked some pieces together, attached the handle. Hooking up the garden hose and the power cord was simple enough. No messing with fuel or pull starts.
Fired it up. It was quieter than my neighbor's gas beast, for sure. Pointed it at the grimiest part of the patio... and yeah, it worked! Stripped that green gunk right off. Moved onto the fence, same deal. Took a while, you gotta move kinda slow, but it definitely made a huge difference. Washed the car too, used the wider spray nozzle for that.
So far, so good. It does what I needed it to do. Haven't had it long, so can't speak to how long it'll last, but the initial feeling is relief. It cleans the stuff I wanted cleaned without being overly complicated or expensive. Picking a brand, any decent one really, felt better than being stuck trying to find the "perfect" one forever.
