Okay, so I finally got around to tackling the driveway this weekend. It was looking pretty grim, honestly. Moss starting in the shady spots, general grime, the whole nine yards. Usually, I just blast it with the pressure washer wand, you know, making those stripes back and forth, takes forever, kills my back.

Getting Set Up

I'd picked up one of those "hydro broom" attachments a while back. It's basically a bar with a couple of nozzles underneath, on wheels. Seemed like a good idea at the time. So, I dug it out of the garage.

• First, I hooked up the pressure washer, got the water running. Standard stuff.
• Then, I grabbed the hydro broom thing. It just snapped onto the end of the pressure washer wand where the normal nozzle goes. Pretty simple connection, thankfully. Didn't need any tools.
• Checked that it felt secure. Gave it a wiggle. Seemed okay.

The Actual Cleaning Part

Alright, time to see if this thing actually worked. I squeezed the trigger and started pushing it across the concrete. It felt kinda like using one of those old-style vacuum cleaners, but wetter, obviously.

Pushing it along was way faster than just using the wand tip. Covered a much wider area with each pass. I just walked behind it, going up and down the driveway in straight lines. The wheels made it roll easy enough.

It definitely lifted the surface dirt quickly. You could see the clean path appearing right away. It wasn't perfect though. Some tougher, ground-in spots needed me to slow down a bit, or even go over them a second time. And you have to keep it flat on the ground, otherwise, the spray goes everywhere.

What I Noticed

It uses a fair amount of water, which makes sense with multiple nozzles going. The pressure felt a bit less intense than the pinpoint nozzle, but covered more ground, so it balanced out I guess.

It's not a magic bullet for everything. Getting right up against the edges of the driveway, or into tight corners? Forget it. The bar is too wide. I still had to pop the broom attachment off and use the regular wand to finish off those detailed areas and rinse everything down properly.

End Result?

So, after I finished up, including the edge work with the normal wand, the driveway looked pretty good. Much more consistent finish than my usual stripey job. And the best part? It took maybe, just maybe, half the time it normally does. My arms and back weren't aching nearly as much either.

Yeah, it's another gadget. And no, it doesn't make pressure washing fun. But for big, flat areas like my driveway? It definitely made the job quicker and a bit less of a chore. It's decent. Probably use it again next time the concrete starts looking sad. Beats spending the whole afternoon out there with just the wand, anyway.
