Why use a power washer broom for cleaning? (Understand the benefits for outdoor spaces)

Tackling the Grime with a Power Washer Broom

Okay, so I've been meaning to share this for a while. My driveway was looking pretty sad, you know, the usual grime, moss starting in the corners. I used to spend ages out there with just the regular power washer wand, going back and forth, back and forth. My back would be killing me by the end.

Then I saw this thing, a power washer broom attachment. Looked interesting. Basically, it's a bar with a couple of nozzles underneath, sometimes on wheels, that hooks onto the end of your power washer wand. Seemed like it could cover more ground faster. Figured, why not give it a shot?

So, I got one. Pulled it out of the box. Pretty straightforward piece of kit, honestly. Just had to snap it onto the end of my wand where the normal nozzle tip goes. Made sure it clicked in place properly. Didn't want that thing flying off mid-wash.

Next, I dragged out the power washer itself. Got the hoses hooked up, water turned on. Fired up the engine. Standard stuff. Put on my safety glasses – learned that lesson the hard way a long time ago. You get backsplash with these things.

Alright, time for the moment of truth. I pointed the broom attachment down at the concrete, about an inch or two off the surface. Took a breath and squeezed the trigger on the wand.

Wow. The thing immediately started spraying hard from the nozzles underneath. Because mine had wheels, it was easy to just start walking. I pushed it forward slowly, like I was vacuuming or mowing the lawn. The difference was huge. Instead of a tiny strip getting cleaned, I was doing a path maybe a foot wide, maybe a bit more.

  • Started at one end of the driveway.
  • Pushed the broom forward slowly in a straight line.
  • Walked back and did the next overlapping strip.
  • Just kept going like that.

It definitely cleaned faster. No doubt about it. Cut the time down quite a bit. It worked best on the big, flat open areas. I did notice a couple of things though.

It wasn't magical for the really stubborn, baked-on stains. Had to go over those spots a couple of times, maybe a bit slower. And getting right up against the edges or into tight corners? Yeah, the round shape (or wide bar) meant it couldn't quite get into those spots perfectly. So, after I finished the main area with the broom, I quickly popped it off and put a regular nozzle back on the wand. Just took a few extra minutes to blast those edges and corners clean.

But overall? Big improvement. My back wasn't aching nearly as much because I wasn't swinging the wand side to side for hours. Just pushing the broom forward was way easier physically.

Finished the whole driveway. Stood back and looked. Looked good. Much cleaner, and it didn't take my entire Saturday afternoon. Cleaned off the broom attachment itself with the hose, let it dry, and put it away with the power washer.

So, yeah. If you've got a big patio, driveway, or deck that needs regular power washing, I'd say look into one of these power washer brooms. It's not perfect for every single nook and cranny, but for covering large flat surfaces quickly? It's a solid piece of gear. Made a tedious job a lot more manageable for me.
