Why should you buy a foam wash gun? Make washing your car faster and much more fun today.

Okay, let me walk you through my little adventure with this foam wash gun thing. I'd been seeing them everywhere, you know? Videos online, guys at car meets. Looked kinda fun, way better than sloshing a mitt in a gritty bucket over and over. So, I figured, why not? Gotta try it myself.

Getting Started

Pulled the trigger and ordered one. It arrived, box wasn't anything fancy. Took it out. Seemed okay, mostly plastic, some brass bits for the important connections. Felt decent enough in the hand, not too heavy. It came with a few different nozzle attachments for my garden hose – thankfully one of them actually fit mine after a bit of fiddling. Always a gamble with hose attachments, right?

First thing was the soap. Grabbed my usual car wash soap. The bottle on the gun has markings, but honestly, I just kinda guessed the first time. Poured some soap in, maybe like an inch or two? Then topped it up with water from the hose. Screwed the bottle back onto the gun nozzle part. Seemed simple enough.

The First Attempt

Hooked it all up to the hose, turned the water on. Checked for leaks – so far, so good. Aimed at the car (my poor, dusty sedan needed this). Squeezed the handle.

And... well, it wasn't quite the blizzard of foam I saw online. More like... bubbly water? Kinda disappointing, not gonna lie. It sprayed out okay, covered the car quickly, but it wasn't that thick, shaving-cream style foam. It started running off pretty fast.

Okay, round two. Maybe more soap? Dumped out the watery mix. This time I put in way more soap, maybe filled it like a quarter of the way? Topped off with water again. Tried again.

Better! This time it was definitely foamier. Still maybe not super-duper thick like a pro setup with a pressure washer, but it was actual clinging foam. Covered the whole car pretty easily. Just walked around, spraying side to side. Way faster than the bucket method for getting soap everywhere.

Washing and Rinsing

Let the foam sit for a minute or two, watched it drip down, hopefully lifting some dirt. Then I grabbed my wash mitt (still need one of these!) and went over the car. Seemed like the foam helped lubricate things nicely. The mitt glided pretty smoothly.

  • Covered the car quickly.
  • Foam clung reasonably well (after adding more soap).
  • Made the mitt pass feel slicker.

Rinsing was easy. Just disconnected the soap bottle part (quick release, thankfully) and used the gun's handle just to spray water. Rinsed all the suds off. Simple.

Final Thoughts

So, what's the verdict? For a garden hose attachment, it's pretty neat. Don't expect that crazy thick foam you see with pressure washer cannons unless you maybe experiment a lot with specific soaps and ratios. But does it work? Yeah.

It definitely speeds up the initial soaping stage. Gets soap into all the little nooks and crannies easier than flinging suds with a mitt. It's kinda fun to use, too. Makes washing feel a bit less tedious. You still need to do a proper contact wash with a mitt, don't get me wrong. This isn't a magic touchless wash thing, especially with just hose pressure.

Clean-up is important. I made sure to run clean water through the gun after detaching the soap bottle, just to flush out any leftover soap. Don't want that stuff gunking up the insides.

Overall, yeah, I'm happy I got it. It's a fun tool, makes the process a bit quicker, and definitely uses less water than constantly rinsing a mitt in a bucket. Just gotta manage expectations about foam thickness if you're using a regular garden hose. It gets the job done.
