Okay, so I finally got around to tackling that patio cleaner spray thing I've been meaning to do. You know how it is, always putting it off!
First things first, I gathered all my supplies. This included some bleach (the cheap stuff!), some dish soap (nothing fancy, just your standard Dawn), a spray bottle (an old cleaner bottle I rinsed out REALLY well), and, of course, water.
The recipe I kinda made up as I went along was roughly this:
- About a cup of bleach – I eyeballed it, to be honest.
- A squirt of dish soap – maybe a tablespoon?
- Filled the rest of the spray bottle with water.
Now, here's the important part: mix it CAREFULLY! I did it outside, just in case of any accidental spills. And definitely don't breathe in the fumes – bleach is no joke.
Next, I grabbed my trusty scrub brush and headed out to the patio. Our patio gets pretty gross – moss, algae, you name it. It’s a real eyesore.
I started spraying the cleaner liberally all over the affected areas. I let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to really soak in and do its thing. You could already see the gunk starting to loosen up a bit.
Then came the fun part – the scrubbing! This took a bit of elbow grease, I won't lie. But the combination of the cleaner and the brush really worked wonders. The moss and algae were lifting right off.
After scrubbing, I hosed everything down really well to rinse away all the cleaner and loosened dirt. Make sure you get it all – you don't want any lingering bleach residue.
And that's it! The patio looked SO much better. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement. Plus, it was a super cheap and easy project. Definitely worth the effort.
A few things I learned:
- Wear gloves! My hands were a bit irritated afterwards.
- Don't do this on a windy day. You don't want the spray blowing back in your face.
- Rinse, rinse, rinse! Seriously, make sure you get all the cleaner off.
Overall, I'd call this a success. My patio is cleaner, I didn't spend a fortune, and I got a bit of exercise. Win-win-win!
