Is a power wash attachment for hose worth buying? See how it helps you clean faster and better.

Okay, let me tell you about my little adventure with one of those power wash attachments for a regular garden hose.

So, the patio out back was starting to look a bit green and sad. You know how mildew and general dirt just builds up over time. I didn't want to drag out a heavy pressure washer, too much hassle for a quick clean. I remembered seeing these hose attachments, the ones that claim to give you a stronger spray. Figured I'd give one a shot.

Picked one up pretty cheap. Nothing fancy, just a metal wand thing with a couple of brass nozzle tips – one looked like a more focused jet, the other a wider spray. Seemed simple enough.

Getting Started

First thing was just getting it hooked up. It had a standard connector, so I just unscrewed the regular nozzle from my garden hose. Then, I screwed this new attachment right on. Gave it a good tighten with my hand, didn't want water spraying everywhere but where I wanted it. That part was really easy, took like 30 seconds.

I popped on the nozzle tip that looked like it would give a stronger, pinpoint stream first. Wanted to see what kind of power this thing actually had.

Turning on the Water and Trying it Out

Alright, moment of truth. I walked over to the spigot and turned the water on full blast. Went back to the nozzle, squeezed the handle (mine had a simple on/off lever). Okay, water came out. It was definitely a stronger stream than my usual hose nozzle, no doubt about that. More focused, more punch.

I pointed it at the green stuff on the concrete patio stones. It started to lift some of the surface grime and lighter mildew right away. Had to get pretty close to the surface for the stubborn spots, maybe just a few inches away. It wasn't magically blasting away years of buildup like a real, high-PSI pressure washer would, let's be real. But it was doing something.

I spent about 20 minutes just working my way across the worst spots on the patio. Then I switched to the fan spray nozzle tip. This was better for rinsing off the loosened dirt and covering a wider area quickly. It didn't have the same focused power, obviously, but it was good for a general rinse-down.

What I Found It Good For

After messing with the patio, I tried it on a few other things:

  • Rinsing the car: Good for getting loose dirt and pollen off before a proper wash. Better than just the hose.
  • Cleaning muddy garden tools: Worked great for blasting mud off shovels and boots.
  • Washing down outdoor furniture: Did a decent job getting dust and cobwebs off the plastic chairs.
  • Getting grime off the lower part of the siding: Okay for light dirt, but not for anything really stuck on.

Basically, it's a step up from a standard hose nozzle. It gives you a more concentrated jet for rinsing and tackling light cleaning tasks. It’s super simple to use, just attach and go. No gas, no cords, just the hose you already have.

But here’s the thing: don't expect it to perform like a dedicated pressure washer that costs hundreds of dollars. It relies entirely on your home's existing water pressure. If your water pressure is just okay, this will just make it a bit more focused. It’s not going to magically increase the pressure itself. It's a hose attachment, not a pressure washer.

So yeah, that was my experience. It was useful for quick, light-duty cleaning jobs where I just needed a bit more 'oomph' than the regular hose could provide. Happy I tried it, probably keep using it for those smaller tasks.
