What detergents can go in a pressure washer chemical sprayer? Understand compatible soaps for great cleaning.

Okay, so I finally got around to tackling the green stuff growing on my north-facing wall. Pressure washer alone wasn't cutting it last year, just seemed to push the grime around. Heard about using those chemical sprayers that attach to the pressure washer, figured I'd give it a shot.

Getting Started with the Sprayer Thingy

Went and bought one of those siphon tube attachments. You know, the kind with a little hose you stick directly into the cleaning solution bottle. Seemed simple enough, less messing around with filling tanks. Thought it would be quick.

First thing, mixing the cleaner. The bottle said dilute it, so I got a bucket and mixed the stuff up. Water, cleaner... simple. Then, I tried hooking the sprayer attachment to my pressure washer wand. It just clicked on where the normal nozzle goes. Okay, easy part done.

Then came the siphon tube. Stuck it in the bucket of cleaner. Seemed straightforward.

The Actual Spraying Part - Where it Got Messy

Fired up the pressure washer. Pulled the trigger. Just water came out. High pressure water. Not the soapy mix I wanted. Checked the instructions again. Ah, needed the low-pressure nozzle, the black one. Swapped it out. Okay, try again.

Pulled the trigger... and yeah, suds started coming out. Success! Kinda. It wasn't exactly a thick foam like you see in videos, more like slightly soapy water spraying everywhere. And I mean everywhere. The wind caught it, blew back onto me, onto the windows I just cleaned last week... great.

Here's what I found out pretty quick:

  • You go through the cleaning solution FAST. That little bucket I mixed? Gone in like five minutes spraying one section of the wall.
  • Keeping that siphon tube actually in the bucket while moving around was a pain. It kept tipping over or the tube would pop out.
  • The coverage wasn't super even. Some spots got drenched, others barely hit.

Did it Work Though?

Yeah, I guess. After letting the cleaner sit for a bit, I swapped back to a regular cleaning nozzle (the green one, I think?) and blasted the wall. The green gunk definitely came off easier than last year with just water. So, the chemical part did its job.

But honestly, the whole process felt clumsy. Maybe those integrated tank sprayers are better? Or maybe one of those fancy foam cannons? This basic siphon tube setup... it worked, but it wasn't smooth sailing. It felt like more hassle than it should have been, wrestling with the hose, the bucket, getting soap everywhere.

Next time? I might just mix the cleaner in a separate garden sprayer first, let it sit, then pressure wash. Seems less chaotic. Or maybe I'll splurge on a better attachment. This cheap one got the job done, barely, but it wasn't the magic solution I was hoping for. Just another Saturday afternoon spent figuring things out the hard way.
