Okay, so I finally got around to sorting out the garden hose situation. For ages, it's just been lying there, coiled up messy on the patio, looking untidy and always being a trip hazard. Every time I needed to use it, I'd have to untangle it, and putting it back was just as annoying. Just a real pain.

I kept thinking, "I need to get one of those holder things." You see them around. Some hang on the wall, some stick in the ground. I figured something on the wall by the tap would be best for me, keep it right out of the way.

Putting it Up

So, the other weekend, I actually did something about it. Went down to the local hardware store. They had a few different types. I didn't want anything fancy, just something sturdy that would hold the hose. Picked out a simple, solid plastic one. Nothing special, but looked like it would do the job.

Got it home. First thing was finding the right spot on the wall near the outside tap. Wanted it high enough off the ground but easy enough to reach. Found a decent patch of brickwork that looked solid.

Then I gathered my tools. Just needed a few things:

  • The new hose holder, obviously
  • My trusty drill
  • A masonry drill bit (important for brick!)
  • Wall plugs and screws (the ones that came with it looked a bit flimsy, so I used some better ones I already had)
  • A spirit level – didn't want it looking wonky
  • A pencil for marking

Held the holder against the wall, used the spirit level to get it straight, and marked where the screw holes needed to go with the pencil. Then came the drilling. Put the masonry bit in the drill and went for it. Took a bit of effort to get through the brick, nice and slow. Pushed the wall plugs into the holes I'd drilled.

After that, it was easy peasy. Lined the holder up with the holes again, put the screws through the holder and into the wall plugs, and tightened them up with the screwdriver bit on my drill. Gave it a good wiggle to make sure it was firmly attached. Felt solid.

The Result

Finally! The moment of truth. I grabbed that messy hose, coiled it up neatly, and hung it on the new holder. Took like two minutes.

Stepped back and had a look. Honestly, it looks so much better. No more hose snake lying on the ground. Everything's tidy, off the floor, and right there next to the tap, ready to use. Simple job, but makes a big difference. Really should've done it ages ago. Happy I finally got that sorted.
