Finding Someone to Blast the Grime Off

So, the house was looking rough. Seriously. Greenish stuff growing on the siding, the driveway had mysterious stains, and the back patio looked like it hadn't seen sunlight in years. Just grim. I knew something had to be done, it was bothering me every time I pulled into the driveway.

First thing I did, grabbed my tablet and typed in exactly what I was thinking: home power washing near me. Hit enter. Boom, tons of results. Websites, ads, map listings, you name it. Felt a bit overwhelming right off the bat. Looked like a mix of big outfits and smaller local guys.

Started clicking around. Made a short list of maybe four or five that looked promising, mostly based on whether their website looked halfway decent and they were actually near me. Then I started making calls to get some prices. That was an adventure.

  • First call: Went straight to voicemail. Left a message, never heard back. Okay, next.
  • Second call: Talked to someone, they gave me a price over the phone but it felt super vague. Like, "around X dollars, depending." Depending on what? Didn't feel solid.
  • Third call: This guy wanted to schedule a visit just to give a quote. Fair enough, I guess. Set up a time. He never showed. Didn't call, nothing. Wasted half my afternoon waiting.
  • Fourth call: Finally, talked to a woman who sounded like she knew what was up. Asked good questions about the house size, what surfaces I wanted done. Gave me a clear price range and explained what it included. Felt much better.

Decided to go with the last company. They weren't the absolute cheapest quote I eventually got, but they seemed the most organized and reliable from that first call. Sometimes you just get a feeling, you know? Booked them for the following week.

The Big Clean Day

The day arrived. Saw their truck pull up right on time. Two guys hopped out, looked professional enough. They walked around the house with me quickly, confirmed what we'd discussed on the phone – siding, driveway, back patio.

They got to work setting up. Unwound these massive hoses from the truck, hooked up to my outdoor faucet. Fired up the power washer machine – pretty loud piece of equipment, not gonna lie. One guy started on the siding, the other tackled the driveway.

Watching them work was actually kind of satisfying. You could see the dirt and grime just melting away under the water spray. They pre-treated some of the really bad spots, especially on the north side of the house where the green stuff was worst. They seemed careful around the windows and doors, which I appreciated. Didn't want any broken seals or water getting forced inside.

Took them maybe three, four hours total. They packed up all their gear, coiled the hoses back up, made sure everything looked tidy. Did a final walkthrough with me to make sure I was happy.

And yeah, I was happy. The house looked maybe five years younger. The concrete on the driveway and patio was back to its original light gray color, not that depressing dark shade. Siding looked bright again. It just felt cleaner.

Honestly, the hardest part was just finding someone decent and reliable to do the job. The actual washing part, once they got going, was smooth sailing. Glad I paid someone instead of trying to rent one of those machines and doing it myself. Would've taken me all weekend, probably, and I likely wouldn't have done as good a job. Sometimes, you just gotta hire it out.
