My Go at Pressure Washing

Okay, so the deck was looking pretty sad. Like, really sad. Green stuff growing on it, dirt everywhere. I kept looking at it and thinking, "Man, gotta do something." Scrubbing by hand? No way, that's too much work.

Then I remembered my neighbor got one of those pressure washers. Figured I'd give that a try. Went over and borrowed his electric one. Seemed less scary than the gas ones, you know?

Setting It Up

Got it back to my place. Had to figure out the hoses. Hooked up the garden hose to the inlet thingy, then the high-pressure hose to the wand thing. Plugged it in. Seemed simple enough, but I double-checked everything, didn't want water spraying everywhere it shouldn't.

Giving it a Whirl

Turned on the water first, then flipped the switch on the washer. It hummed to life. Pointed the wand away from anything important and squeezed the trigger. Whoosh! Okay, this thing has some kick.

Started on a corner of the deck that's kinda hidden. Moved the wand back and forth, kinda slow. Wow! You could see the clean wood appear right under the spray. It was actually cutting through the grime. Pretty cool to watch.

  • Tried keeping a steady distance.
  • Moved in smooth lines, overlapping a bit.
  • Got splashed a few times, definitely wear old shoes.

The Main Job

Once I got the hang of it, I moved onto the main part of the deck. Just kept going, section by section. It's kinda loud, not terrible, but you know it's running. Took a while, gotta be patient. My arm got a little tired holding the wand after a bit.

Had to be careful near the house siding and the windows. Didn't want to blast paint off or break anything. Just aimed carefully.

The Result and Cleanup

Stepped back when I was done. Man, what a difference! The wood looked almost new again. All that green gunk, gone. The dirt, washed away. Felt pretty good, seeing it so clean.

Turning it off was easy. Disconnected the hoses, let the water drain out. Coiled everything up and wiped the machine down a bit before taking it back to my neighbor.

So yeah, pressure washing. Took some time, got a bit wet, but totally worth it for how clean the deck looks now. Way better than scrubbing!
