DIY Cleaner for Popcorn Machine Easy Homemade Recipes Inside

So last Friday night I fired up my popcorn machine for movie time with the fam, and dang that thing was disgusting. Oil splatters everywhere, kernels stuck to the heating element, and this nasty yellow gunk crusted on the sides. I was about to buy that overpriced commercial cleaner when my wife was like "can't you just whip something up?" Challenge accepted.
Gathering the Stuff
First I raided the kitchen cabinets like a mad scientist. Grabbed these things:
- That half-empty white vinegar bottle from the back of the pantry
- Lemon juice in the squeeze bottle
- Regular blue Dawn dish soap
- Hot water from the tap
- My dollar store spray bottle covered in mystery stains
Mixing the Magic Juice
Okay here's exactly how I did it. Took the spray bottle and eyeballed about 3/4 cup vinegar first. Then squeezed in maybe 2 tablespoons of lemon juice – smelled like a salad dressing gone wrong. Added maybe 10 drops of Dawn and kinda regret that cause it started foaming like crazy. Last step was filling it up with hot water almost to the top, shaking that sucker like a cocktail.
The Scrub Down
Unplugged the machine and waited till it was cold. Then just went wild spraying that homemade juice everywhere inside. The yellow crust started dissolving immediately which was crazy satisfying. Grabbed my toothbrush (sorry babe it's a cleaning toothbrush now) and scrubbed all the popcorn gunk outta the cracks. That vinegar smell though... whoo! Had to open the windows.
Final Rinse Test
Wiped everything down with wet paper towels. The heating element was kinda brownish at first but wiped clean? That surprised me. Added a tiny splash of just water and Dawn to clean the outside surfaces. Let it air dry overnight cause I didn't want vinegar-flavored popcorn for Sunday football.
Tried it yesterday morning and wow. Popped like new and the plastic lid was clear again. Total cost? Like 35 cents maybe? Still can't believe the soap bubbles actually worked on the grease. My kid thought it was a science project and spilled some on the counter... which reminds me I need to go wipe it up before it etches my granite.
