The Truck Arrival and Unloading Chaos
Got the truck parked just past the garage door this morning – took three tries backing up, coffee still steaming in my thermos. Jumped out, rolled that heavy side door open. First glance? Wow, that machine ain't messing around. Metal frame, giant hoses coiled up like sleepy snakes, and the engine block looking solid. Needed muscle. Hooked the hand truck under the main unit frame and grunted it down onto the shop floor. Always the heaviest part.
Dragged the metal frame base out next. That thing clanked loud enough to wake the neighbor's dog. Slid it into place roughly where I knew the main unit would sit. Grabbed the big vacuum motor next – it felt like lifting a sack of rocks. Wrestled it onto its bracket on the base frame. Nearly dropped it trying to line up the mounting bolts. Had to walk away for a second, hands on my knees.
Hooking Up the Wet Mess
This is where I usually mess up. Found the big solution tank first – shoved it onto its spot on the frame near the vacuum. Next, the dirty water tank. Stuffed it in next to the clean one. Found the clear plastic suction hose and the thicker black pressure hose, all tangled like spaghetti. Took ages to straighten them out. Fed the ends onto the dirty tank inlet and the pump outlet – felt the connectors click tight.
- Connected clean tank → pump → solution hose.
- Connected suction hose → vacuum motor → dirty tank.
- Found the smaller hoses for the spray bar → pump → solution tank.
Hoses everywhere. What a mess. Like connecting garden hoses on steroids. Pulled them clear of the frame finally.
Cranking It Up & Testing the Flow
Shoved the frame lock pins in place – always forget these! Hauled the whole assembly upright, cranked the handle until the wheels lifted off the floor. Secured it with the latch. Double-checked all the hose clamps. Felt nervous. Plugged the electric cable into the truck's big outlet box. Triple-checked no one parked behind the exhaust pipes.
Deep breath. Hit the power switch. Heard the vacuum motor spin up with a deep whine. Good sign. Toggled the pump switch next. That familiar pump thump started echoing in the bay. Felt the pressure lines stiffen. Grabbed my test spray wand, pointed it outside the door. Squeezed the trigger. Whoosh! Water shot out like a champ.
Opened the vacuum valve. Held my hand over the suction wand – strong pull! Okay, no leaks, no weird sounds from the engine. Let it run ten minutes just watching gauges.
Final Sweep & Lock Down
Turned everything off. The quiet after was nice. Went over every connection one last time, wiping drips. Strapped the hoses down neat against the frame with those velcro strips. Unlatched the frame, gently lowered the unit back down. Dragged it forward slightly, locked the wheel brakes.
- Tidied loose tools – found that 10mm socket under the truck tire.
- Coiled the main power cord nice and neat.
- Gave the gauges a wipe.
That was it. Sweat dripping, probably got solution tank goo on my sleeve somewhere, but the truck is loaded and ready to clean carpets tomorrow morning. Took me a good three hours, beer tastes better after a proper setup day!
