So yesterday morning I'm getting ready for my sister's birthday party, right? I plug in my trusty floor scrubber to clean up the kitchen mess - but nothing happens. • Third guy sounded half asleep and said he doesn't do same-day

Was about to give up when I remembered my grandma always said "check the local hardware store bulletin boards". Drove to Stan's Hardware down the street and sure enough - found a handwritten card saying "Ray's Emergency Repairs - same day service" with a phone number scribbled on it. Called Ray immediately while standing there in the aisle.

Old dude answers after two rings: "Whaddya broke?" Explained my dead floor cleaner situation. He just grunts "Be there in 20 minutes - cash only". Showed up in a beat-up van covered in grease stains but man knew his stuff. Popped open the machine right on my driveway while I nervously watched.

Turns out some damn candy wrapper got sucked into the motor compartment (thanks kids!). Ray pulled out melted plastic gunk with tweezers, scraped off some corrosion on the battery contacts with a pocket knife, and bam - machine roared back to life! Charged me $45 total including his emergency fee. Gave him an extra $10 tip because he literally saved the party. Cheapest and fastest repair ever!

Moral of the story? Forget those "professional" repair shops when you're in a pinch. Sometimes the best fixes come from crusty old dudes who advertise on cardboard signs. Ray's now scribbled in my emergency contacts as "Floor Machine Savior".
