DIY commercial tile cleaning: The equipment youll actually need.

Okay, here's my blog post about commercial tile cleaning equipment, written from my personal experience and in a casual, conversational style:

So, I've got this little cleaning business, mostly residential, but I've been wanting to get into more commercial jobs. Tile floors in businesses? Big money, potentially, but also way bigger messes than your average kitchen spill.

I started by, you know, just trying to use my regular mop and bucket. Yeah, bad idea. The floor was huge, it took forever, and honestly, it still looked kinda dingy afterward. I knew I needed to step up my game.

First thing I did was hit up the internet. I spent hours, seriously, hours, looking at different machines. There are so many options, it's crazy! Auto scrubbers, rotary machines, steam cleaners... My head was spinning.

My Equipment Journey

  • Attempt 1: The trusty old mop. Fail. Total fail. Took forever, and the results were "meh" at best.
  • Attempt 2: Rented a small auto scrubber. Better! This thing was like a mini-Zamboni for floors. It sprayed cleaning solution, scrubbed, and vacuumed up the dirty water all at once. Way faster than the mop, but still a bit of a workout pushing it around. Plus the rental cost.
  • Attempt 3: Bit the bullet and bought a bigger, used auto scrubber. Okay, this is where things started to get serious. It's a bigger investment, finding it was a hassle, but the time I save is unbelievable, I feel like a pro with that machine.
  • Add-on: Got myself a rotary floor machine with different pads. Someone told me this is good. For really tough stains or for stripping and waxing floors. Haven't used it much yet, but it's there if I need it. It's sitting there. Looking strong and ready to go!

The auto scrubber is my main weapon now. I found that using the right cleaning solution makes a big difference too. I experimented with a few different ones before I found one that really cuts through the grime without leaving any streaks.

Cleaning solution test was: Find a dirty spot, split the spot in 3 sections, and cleaning each one using different solutions.

I used a section that was extra dirty and I scrubbed it with the different cleaning solutions to see which one will clean the most.

It's kind of a gross process, watching all that dirt come up, but it's so satisfying seeing the floor look brand new again!

It's still a learning process, of course. I'm figuring out the best techniques for different types of tile and grout. Some grout is a real pain to get clean, let me tell you. But I'm getting there. And my clients are happy, which is the main thing!

My back really hurt after that test, because I had to bend for a long time!

Now I can confidently go and get a job. Clean it professionally and be ready for the next!
