Okay, so I had to figure out the NAICS code for my cleaning company the other day. It was for some registration paperwork, you know how it is, always needing some specific code for something.

My Search Begins

First thing I did was just hop on my computer. Opened up a search engine, typed in something like "business code for cleaning service" or "NAICS code cleaning company". Got a bunch of results back, naturally.

Saw some links pointing to the official NAICS website, looked kinda government-y and serious. Clicked on one of those. The site itself, well, it wasn't super friendly looking. Lots of text, lots of numbers. Felt a bit like digging through library archives or something.

Digging Through Categories

So I started clicking around. Knew it had to be under some kind of service category. Found a main section, something like "Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services". Okay, that sounded kinda broad, but maybe? Clicked into that.

Then I saw a sub-category, "Services to Buildings and Dwellings". Getting warmer, right? That sounded more like it. Clicked again.

Inside that category, there were a few options. I scanned the list, looking for keywords. And boom, there it was: Janitorial Services. That's us, that's what we do. Cleaning offices, homes, general janitorial stuff.

Found the Code!

Next to "Janitorial Services", there was the number: 561720. I clicked on it just to be sure, read the little description they had. It mentioned things like:

• Building cleaning services
• Janitorial services
• Office cleaning services
• Washroom sanitation services

Yeah, that pretty much covered what my company does day-to-day. It seemed like the right fit. Didn't see any other code that matched better for general cleaning.

So, I jotted down 561720 on the form. Took a little bit of navigating and clicking through those menus, but wasn't too bad once I found the right path. Felt good to get that little piece of admin sorted out. Just another step in running the business, I guess.
