So, I decided I needed an easier way to wash the car and maybe clean off the patio furniture without messing around with buckets all the time. I picked up one of those garden hose nozzles that has a little container for soap.

Getting Started

First thing I did was take it out of the package. Felt pretty straightforward. Just a nozzle with a small plastic jar screwed onto it. Looked simple enough.

Hooking it up to the hose was easy. Just twisted it on where the old nozzle used to be. Seemed to fit okay on my standard hose fitting, no adapters needed which was good.

Adding the Soap and First Use

Next step was adding the soap. I unscrewed the little jar – it's maybe cup-sized, not very big. I grabbed my regular car wash liquid. Pouring it in was a little tricky because the opening isn't massive. Managed not to spill too much, thankfully. Then just screwed the jar back onto the nozzle.

Alright, time to try it out. I turned on the spigot. The nozzle has a trigger like most hose sprayers. It also had a little switch or dial on top. This was supposed to control the soap mix, letting you switch between just water and the soapy spray.

  • Water setting worked fine, just like a regular nozzle.
  • Flipping it to the soap setting was where the magic was supposed to happen.

I aimed it at the car and pulled the trigger. It definitely sprayed soapy water. It wasn't super thick foam like you see at a car wash, more like really bubbly water, but it coated the car alright. There were also different spray patterns on the nozzle head itself – jet, shower, flat, etc. – which worked with both the water and the soap setting.

What I Found

Using it was definitely faster than dipping a mitt into a bucket constantly. I could soap down a whole side of the car pretty quickly. I also tried it on some plastic garden chairs, and it worked okay for getting light dust and grime off them.

However, I noticed a couple of things:

  • That little soap container emptied out faster than I expected. I had to refill it once just to finish washing my small SUV. Seems like it uses a fair bit of soap, even on a lower mix setting.
  • I had a very slight leak from where the nozzle connected to the hose. Not pouring out water, but a consistent drip. Maybe just needed more tightening or some plumber's tape, but it was a bit annoying.
  • Adjusting the soap mix dial didn't seem to make a huge difference between 'a little soap' and 'more soap'. It was mostly either 'soapy' or 'just water'.

Final Thoughts

So, yeah. I used the garden hose soap dispenser. It did make the initial soaping part of washing the car a bit quicker. It attaches easily and sprays soap. But, it goes through soap pretty quick, the build feels a bit lightweight, and mine had a tiny leak. It's not a bad tool, just maybe not as amazing as I hoped. It gets the job done, just with a few quirks. Useful for quick, light cleaning jobs for sure.
